Celebration of Vallabhbhai Patel's 139th Birth Anniversary on 31st October 2014 as National Unity Day. Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad under the banner of N. S. S celebrated National Unity Day on 31st October 2014 at the Women's Wing of the college from 1 P.M. Many students, N. S. S. Volunteers, N. C. C. Cadets participated in the activities organized on this day.
There was a Lecture program followed by an Essay Writing Competition for the students. The program started with N. S. S. song. Then a series of lectures were delivered by many teachers of the college. The program was presided over by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. In his lecturer, he talked on the life and works of Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel. Prof. Debashis Bose, Prof. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Dipak Kumar and Dr. Mina Malkhandi also talked on the revolutionary thoughts of the great leader.
After the lectures, a Pledge ceremony took place. All the members of teaching and Non – teaching staff took part in it. When the Pledge was over, an essay competition was held. More than a hundred students took part in it. The title of the essay was - Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: A True Leader of India.
The program ended at 4 P.M with a vote of thanks to the Chair and all the participants.

Guru Nanak College, NSS Units - 1 & 2 celebrated NSS Day Celebration by organising an Awareness Programme at the main campus of the college, Bhuda, Dhanbad on 24th September 2014.
Nearly one hundred students - volunteers participated in the Programme. The Programme began with the N.S.S song by the volunteers. Then they took part in the awareness procession and moved in the near by village, Bhuda. They carried placards and banners and raised slogans on different social issues like cleanliness, health, literacy and plantation. The procession also aimed at motivating students of the locality to join N.S.S. and extend their service to the making of the society.
Dr. Gopal Sandilya, Prof. In-charge of the college and Dr. Munishwar Prasad, H.O.D.(History) gave inspiring talks on the importance of N.S.S. Prof. Amarjit Singh, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Sri M.H. Ansari, Sri Muralidharan, Sri Indradev Singh, Sri A. M. Singh, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, Balraj and Tussu were present at the occasion.

Guru Nanak College N.S.S. Units - 1 & 2 celebrated Van-Mahotsav on 5th August 2014 at college campus, Bhuda, Dhanbad. The program inaugurated with planting a tree by Dr. Gopal Sandilya, Prof.-In-charge of the college.
More than fifty saplings were planted in the campus. Two days ago N.S.S. volunteers of the college had done the preparatory work for the plantation. These volunteers in number of eighty gathered and helped the plantation go successfully.
At the same time, the student-volunteers were advised to look after the planted saplings. A talk on the importance of the plantation and how to take care of the same was delivered by the teachers.

A Blood Donation camp was organized by Guru Nanak College N. S. S. and Masonic Lodge Dhanbad no.95 on the occasion of Universal Brotherhood Day dated 24th June 2014 at the Vocational Block of the college, Bank More, Dhanbad.
Many student-volunteers of N.S.S., N.C.C., students of B.C.A & B.Ed section donated blood in the camp. More than thirty units of blood were donated. A panel of Doctors and Experts had come from Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, Dhanbad for the camp. Dr. P. K. Singh, Dr. Priyanka and Dr. Ravindra Kumar supervised the medical operation in the camp.
Many respected members and dignitaries of Masonic Lodge were present and made needful contribution throughout the programme. Dr. A.K. Singh, Dr. A.K. Choudhary, Dr. T.N. Ghosh, Dr. N.K. Maitra, Sri V.K. Kapahi, Sri V.K. Allawadi, Sri V.K. Mishra, Sri S.K. Mishra, Sri D.K. Singh, Md. Jalil Ansari, Sri Gobind Burnwal were among them.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of Guru Nanak College, Sardar D.S. Gill, Secretary of the college, Sardar Tirath Singh, member of Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Dhanbad were present throughout the programme with all valuable support.

Guru Nanak College, NSS Units - 1 & 2 organized a seven day special camp in the adopted village, Dhokra from 17th January 2014 to 23rd January 2014. The number of student - volunteers participated in the camp was 112. Both the units performed many activities – awareness programmes as literacy, tree plantation, health and hygiene, construction and repairs, communal harmony etc.
The First Day of the camp began with awareness procession by the volunteers in the village. They raised slogans on the subject of “save environment“.
In the second session of the day was of inaugural function. The function was presided by Dr. Gopal Sandilya (Prof. Incharge of the College). The mukhia of Dhokra Panchayat Smt. Rita Devi was the Chief Guest. The programme was headed by the programme officers; Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Prof. Santosh Sinha many guests and students were present at the function.
The subject of the Second Day of the camp was “Plantation”. All the volunteers formed several groups of 4-5 and were advised to plant two saplings in the gardens, courtyards and safe places of every house in the village. They also participated in awareness procession, sang slogan and played Nukkad Nataks on the concerned subject.
In the second session of the day Prof. Arvind Kumar, Prof. Sunil Sinha, Prof. Amarjit Singh, Prof. Prabhat Kumar addressed the students and villages and talked on the importance of plantation.
The Third Day of the camp was given to the subject of “literacy” The volunteers marched in the awareness processions in the village and made the villagers aware of the importance of literacy. Slates and pencils were distributed among the little children of the village to encourage the interest of the villagers towards their wards’ literacy. The volunteers showed the merit of being literate and demerit of being illiterate through Nukkad Nataks.
In the second secession Sri O.P. Mahato, Secretary, Janta High School, Dhokra lectured before the students on the importance of literacy.
The Fourth Day of the camp was based on the subject of health, cleanliness and family welfare. The day began with volunteers participating in awareness procession. They sweeped with brooms on the roads of the village. The sprayed bleaching powder in drains. A renown physician of Dhanbad Dr. Sudhir Kumar Singh was invited as Resource Person in the second half of the day. He talked on the causes of cancer, aids, malaria, dengue, anemia and told about measures to be taken for prevention from the disease. Dr. Sanjay Prasad was also present on the occasion.
The subject of Fifth Day of the camp was “healthy youth and healthy society“ the volunteers participated in awareness procession. They raised anti – drug, anti – tobacco slogans in the village. They played Nukkad Natak and made the villagers aware of the hazards of smoking, drinking, aids etc. On this day Prof. P. Shekhar, respected Principal of the College visited the camp and addressed the volunteers and villagers.
The theme of the Sixth Day of the camp was “construction and repair work” through physical labour. On this day, the volunteers took the task of painting and white - washing the building of Janta High School. They also repaired the school ground and mended the broken fence of the garden of the school. The programme aimed at encouraging constructive efforts and team – spirit among the students.
The Seventh Day was the closing day of the camp. The day began with awareness processions on the subject of the day – communal harmony. The volunteers sang slogans, raised banners and placards and played Nukkad Natak to encourage communal harmony among people.
The second session of the day was given to the closing ceremony. The function was presided by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the College. In his key note address, he emphasized on the contribution of the youth to be more important and responsible for the growth of the society. The Chief guest of the function was Smt. Rita Devi Mukhia of Dhokra. Dr. Nakul Prasad, N.S.S. Co-ordinator, V.B.U., Hazaribag, also made his graceful presence and praised the activities performed by the volunteers during the camp. Prof. Sunil Sinha, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. Amarjit Singh, Prof, Sanjay Sinha, Sri S. Murleedharan, ward member's of the Panchayat, Sri O.P. Mahato and many guests from the village were present in the function.
